Find Car Parts Fortnite Guide

Fortnite is filled to the brim with various challenges and quests that players can take on throughout the battle royale title. Since first playing the game in 2017 at its launch, I have seen countless different challenges types throughout the three chapters to date. One such set of challenges had players looking for car parts on the Fortnite island with little to no assistance whatsoever. This find car parts Fortnite guide is all about those specific quests.

You see, at the time when the car parts Fortnite quests came out, there were almost no hints that the game gave you about the locations of where to look. This required players to scour the entire island or look for a find car parts Fortnite guide like this one. Thankfully, you don’t have to go searching any longer, as this guide is here to address this entire issue from top to bottom. Here are the locations of all of the car parts in Fortnite.

Bottom Line Up Front

The Fortnite car parts quest is one that was released near the beginning of Fortnite Chapter 2, Season 5, which just so happened to be one of my top three favorite seasons of all time. Players can confuse the car parts with the separate mechanical parts. Car parts are unique items that players had to discover on the massive island, either by themselves or with the help of others. There were three items in total that you had to find for this quest. Two car parts were found at the Junkyard on the Chapter 2 island, while the last one was found nearby in Dirty Docks.

For a moment, let’s take a step back and travel back in time a couple of years to the tail end of 2020. Yes, I know that some of you may not want to go back in time to this period, and I get that. But I will say that in the midst of the newfound horrors raging and confusing at the time in the world, Fortnite was a beacon of light and hope.

During this time, I had one of the best experiences with Fortnite from Chapter 2, Season 5 through Season 6. Season 5, in particular, was the first time that one of my family members played Fortnite, and we played the game nearly daily during that season.

It is one of the fondest memories in all of my gaming life, and I will never forget one of my top three favorite seasons of Fortnite. As such, I also can never forget the time I spent doing the many quests during that season to help max out the battle pass we had in Season 5.

Quests are still, to this day, one of the best ways of gaining experience in Fortnite and leveling up so that you can reach the end of the battle pass. I was especially intrigued in Season 5 since I wanted to get the final pieces of armor for The Mandalorian crossover event that was happening.

As such, I completed nearly every quest that came my way, including the car parts one in Fortnite. This quest came out early in the season and was one that I remember pretty well. This was due to the immense confusion and frustration that was going on in the community at the time regarding how to do it.

History

Hunter’s Haven
Hunter’s Haven from Fortnite Fandom

You see, the car parts Fortnite quest first arrived in only the second week of Chapter 2, Season 5. At this time, players were still getting used to the new island locations like Hunter’s Haven (probably my second-favorite named location of all time!) and Colossal Coliseum.

The Chapter 2 island was filled with various tasks that players could complete, including the car parts quest. The problem with this particular mission was that Epic Games didn’t explain it well. There was no guidance or hints like there are today when it comes to quest.

The mission was highly vague, simply telling the player to locate all three car parts on the Fortnite island. It didn’t make it clear where on the island you could find them or even how to find them. I remember countless posts, tweets, videos, and the like that were all misleading players at the time.

I was even confused myself as a creator, trying to figure out the solution to this quest so that we could provide a welcome answer to the community. In the end, though, it turned out that we were almost all wrong about this particular quest. Thankfully, hindsight is 2020 (literally in this case), so I have the final answer for you here.

Car Parts Explained

For starters, the most confusing part about this situation is what the car parts are in Fortnite. At the time, cars and other vehicles were quite popular in the battle royale game as a mode of transportation. When you first see a quest like finding car parts, it seems relatively self-explanatory, doesn’t it?

I remember myself and others at the time in Season 5 thinking that car parts were just referring to unique items that dropped from cars. Plenty of players ran around the island, finding vehicles and dismantling them with their pickaxes, explosives, and guns.

This is understandable as it makes sense that the car parts would drop from cars, similar to how materials like metal usually come from them. In that case, you would need to destroy three cars and be good. But that wasn’t the case.

You see, these car parts were quite unique, and they weren’t just found by destroying any old vehicle you found on the island. Unfortunately, you had to go to a specific place on the map in order to find the three car parts, and the game didn’t explain this to you.

In fact, the idea of destroying the cars to find the parts is something that would be implemented later on in the life of Fortnite. While the car parts weren’t found this way initially in this quest, this method was later used in future seasons for the mechanical parts instead.

The mechanical parts were materials you could get from destroying mechanical devices like cars, trucks, forklifts, and the like. These mechanical parts were special materials that were used in crafting and upgrading weapons to better rarities or versions of them.

It is very well possible that the car parts quest in Season 5 was a testing ground for what Epic Games was going to implement only a season later in Chapter 2. For now, though, it is honestly hard to say whether that was the point of this quest.

Where to Find Car Parts Fortnite

Car Parts

When it came to finding the three car parts on the Fortnite island in Chapter 2, Season 5, there were a couple of places to look. Since there was no hint to the locations of these items, players had to search for themselves.

If you were to look for the car parts on your own, you would quickly find that it was nearly impossible. Not only did Epic Games hide the items in some relatively obscure locations on the island, but they were even well-hidden within those locations as well.

The one benefit, though, was that the three separate areas were relatively close to one another, so you could easily find all three in the same match. The two general areas where you could find all three car parts were the primary point of interest Dirty Docks, and the smaller landmark location, the Junkyard.

These two locations were found on the eastern edge of the Chapter 2 island. Dirty Docks should be easy to find since it was a primary named location that appeared directly on the map. The quiet and unpopular destination was one of the least used map spots in all of Chapter 2.

The industrial nature of this port city meant that it made a lot of sense for a car parts quest like this one. A single part was found here, and, oh boy, was it a doozy trying to discover it. It wasn’t just in this unvisited location but in a surprisingly obscure spot within the city itself.

When looking at the map near the middle of Dirty Docks, you can see the “t” in the name Dirty Docks. Right at the very tip-top of this letter was where you needed to go in the town. When you would arrive in this random area of the city, you would find there was a shipping container that was near there.

This rusty old shipping container is partially open, with the door barely ajar where you can see inside and only from a certain perspective. This is what made finding this particular car part quite difficult since it took the entire internet of Fortnite players to discover it.

You can either walk right in through the barely open shipping container door or bust it open with your pickaxe. Inside was the first of the car parts that you could interact with to pick up. With that one down, there were two more to find.

The other two were a bit easier to locate, both being at the Junkyard. This landmark location doesn’t show up on the Chapter 2 map, so it may be unfamiliar to some players. Fortunately, it is right near Dirty Docks, being just northwest of the point of interest and right before the significant river here.

When you arrive at the Junkyard, the first of the two car parts you need here is found on the eastern side of the area. There was the second car part for you to pick up right next to the fence surrounding the Junkyard and by some smashed cars.

Head a little southwest from there, and you could find the third and final piece of the puzzle. This one was on the southern side of the Junkyard, near the brick building there and the orange container. Like the other two, interacting with it completed this quest.

At the time, players didn’t have to find all three car parts in the same match, but you certainly could if you knew where they were since they were so close to one another.

Will Car Parts Return to Fortnite?

At the end of the day, the find car parts Fortnite quest was a single drop in the battle royale ocean. A moment in time and a temporary quest that was only for Season 5. When that season concluded, so did the search for these elusive parts.

It turns out that the quest never returned to Fortnite since then, remaining but a memory at this time. There is always a chance that the car parts weekly quest will return at some point. Epic often recycles quest ideas, and I think this is bound to happen, but probably a bit easier on its second try.

As for the mechanical parts, I think these are a shoo-in for being unvaulted at some point. Crafting was a mechanic I adored in Chapter 2, and it didn’t stick around for as long as I hoped it would.

Honestly, this has to come back at some point in Chapter 3, and I think it is sooner rather than later. When that finally does happen, mechanical parts will likely make a return as a crafting material item. In the meantime, be prepared to dismantle your favorite vehicles at a moment’s notice.

What Quest to Complete Next

The Fortnite car parts quest is a relic from the past, being one of the many frustrating missions that we had for the game back in the day. I look back on this time so fondly, remembering all of the amazing memories and moments that happened. It was definitely the best time in Fortnite for me, in large part due to figuring everything out alongside the community.

These days, quests are pretty simple and easy to figure out in Fortnite, with the game itself usually telling you exactly where to go and what to do when you get there. At least, for the most part. Some players also had trouble with one particular quest: donning a disguise in Fortnite. If you need help solving that past quest, you also know where to find the answer.
