Don your swamp gear, grab your boat, and wrangle up your online friends because it is time to go fishing in Fortnite. One of the more relaxing escapades in the battle royale game, I have used fishing as a winding down minigame of sorts many times since its start in Chapter 2.
This included reeling in some big catches like the star of this Vendetta Flopper guide.
The Vendetta Flopper is one of the most sought-after catches in Fortnite. It is one of those legendary beasts you hear talk of throughout the Fortnite community, but you may have never seen yourself.
Believe it or not, I have seen one myself, and I can tell you that the benefits are extraordinary if you can reel in this bad boy in a match. Find out how to do that and much more in this Fortnite Vendetta Flopper guide.
Bottom Line Up Front
Fortnite’s fishing minigame includes a massive collection of different water creatures for you to collect. Vendetta Flopper is one of the most elusive fish you can find in the battle royale game due to its legendary rarity.
But if you can successfully catch one, it will not only heal your health points but also reveal the locations of the nearest enemy to you. It is a valuable fish that is immensely difficult to find, especially since it isn’t even available in the game at the time of writing this. Hopefully, it returns someday soon.
Vendetta Flopper Overview
The onset of Chapter 2 in Fortnite is one of the sharpest memories for me in the game. I love how Epic Games introduced a new island and so many new features for players to enjoy, including fishing.
Part of the hook of fishing in Fortnite is the vast collection of creatures that you can reel in. Adding new entries to your collection is a fantastic experience, especially when you grab one of the rarest around. One such fish is the elusive Vendetta Flopper.
While it is not the most challenging fish to find in Fortnite, it is undoubtedly up there as one of the rarest. This is due to its legendary status in the game.
It does so much more than just heal you up like the other water creatures that you can catch in Fortnite. The valuable benefits that it offers are far and away some of the best that you will find in the battle royale game.
Appearance
The Vendetta Flopper is, quite frankly, one of the ugliest fish that Epic Games has ever come up with. Sorry to the fish fans out there, but this is a very unappealing underwater dweller right here. I think I’d lose my appetite if I knew I was being served this.
Two distinct colors make up the Vendetta Flopper’s look. It is silver on the top and blue on the bottom with a black border that goes in between.
I do appreciate that the fish carries the identity of what it’s useful for, hinting at this in its red target-like eyes.
Vendetta Flopper Benefits
The legendary Vendetta Flopper is not intended to be thrown like some fish in Fortnite, but is a fishy that you want to carefully savor the taste of for yourself.
When you do so, you will find that there are not one but two different bonuses you will gain in battle. These are exceedingly useful on their own, but, together, they make the Vendetta Flopper one of the most popular and desired fish in the entire game.
Health Boost
The first of the benefits that you get when you catch and then eat the Vendetta Flopper is healing. In all honesty, this is not too surprising nor special since most of the fish in Fortnite will heal you when you consume them.
When you eat the Vendetta Flopper, it gives a little more health points back than most fish, though. It could be better since there are fish out there that give a total of 100 health points back, but that isn’t the case for the Vendetta Flopper.
It only gives you 40 points back, which isn’t even half of your total health bar. That said, it is more than the base 15 points that you will usually get from most fish that you catch in the game, so there’s that. Plus, there is no restriction for the Vendetta Flopper, so you can use it anytime.
Like the case with some fish and the bandage item, they have a limit on how much health you can restore using them. Fortunately, the Vendetta Flopper will restore your health at any level. So, even if you have 98 health and just want to cap off your last two points, you can do that.
40 points are solid on their own, but the downside is that it doesn’t apply to your shields. Unfortunately, suppose you already have total health and use the Vendetta Flopper. In that case, it won’t give you 40 shield points, despite being a legendary fish. This is because there’s a much different benefit that you gain at the same time.
Hunting Down Enemy Players
The shakedown ability is the other bonus for catching and eating the Vendetta Flopper. Similar to the Fortnite shakedown feature, the fish will reveal the location of the nearest enemy to you for a short period of time. This is just like your shakedown in that you can find out exactly where an enemy is.
There is no understating this ability’s usefulness, far more so than even the healing aspect of the Vendetta Flopper. When you consume it, the enemy closest to you will have that red diamond shape appear above their head so that you know precisely where they are on the map.
This allows you to hunt them down and take them out without them, perhaps even knowing that you know where they are. The best part is that it will last for about 30 seconds in total. That may not seem like a lot of time, but in the middle of a fight, 30 seconds can be an eternity.
That is plenty of time to plan out a quick route to take the person out without them knowing that you know where they are. Keep in mind, though, that this only reveals the location of a single enemy. It is restricted to just the closest enemy to you, not the entire squad or team.
You will only know a single player, so you may not realize that they have three teammates right next to them until it is too late. There are a lot of possible issues with this, especially if you know nothing else about the team you are hunting other than their location.
Thankfully, I have a few tips for you to maximize your elimination potential with the help of the Vendetta Flopper.
Tips for Chowing Down
There are a couple of situations where I would, personally, use the Vendetta Flopper.
Knowing your enemy’s location is fantastic for finishing off a weak player who is trying to recover their health really fast, running away from you, or reviving their teammate. But at the same time that the Vendetta Flopper is useful for offensive situations, it can be a decent defensive situation, too.
Let’s say the shoe is on the other foot, and you are the one that is backed into a corner with low health or teammates down. You can pop this fish to recover your health and find out the location of your nearest enemy. This could buy you some time to keep an eye out for them while you revive a teammate.
Just keep in mind that only one player is shown, and it is only for 30 seconds, so use it wisely. But let’s say that you are in the unlikely scenario where you have two Vendetta Flopper fish somehow. If you use one and then use it again, it will still show you the nearest enemy.
If someone else happens to get closer to you than the first enemy when you use the second, it will also show them. The chances of you having two Vendetta Floppers and being able to use this to the max potential is rare but worth keeping in mind nonetheless.
How to Reel in the Vendetta Flopper
Part of the confusion surrounding the Vendetta Flopper is how exactly you go about catching it. Let’s be real here: I have only seen and caught this fish once in my entire Fortnite career. I will be clear that I am not exactly a bass pro fisher over here, but it was something I engaged in once or twice every three or so matches in Chapter 2.
I would catch maybe one or two fish in a match when I did it and then moved on. So, to be clear, I was fairly reserved in my fishing adventures. Even still, this went on for eight seasons in total, and I still only saw the Vendetta Flopper a single time myself.
I do know people who caught this fish more than once, but they were much more adamant about fishing in the middle of a match. Thankfully, I’ve got a couple of tips to help you locate this elusive creature.
Pro Fishing Rod Explained
You can’t just find this fish with any fishing rod of your liking in Fortnite.
If you didn’t know, there are two different fishing rods in the game: the basic one and the pro fishing rod. The basic fishing rod is relatively easy to find in Fortnite; just head to any pole barrel and interact with it to grab one for yourself.
But the pro fishing rod is rarer and not always as easy to find. However, you will never see the Vendetta Flopper unless you fish with the pro fishing rod. You can usually find it in the same ways as the regular one by looking near piers and other popular fishing spots.
The pro fishing rod also appears in treasure chests and the like, but you aren’t guaranteed with that. The problem with the Vendetta Flopper is that you don’t even have a chance of catching it unless you have this fishing rod.
Where to Catch this Bad Boy
Let’s say that you finally found yourself a pro fishing rod. You are now ready to reel in a Vendetta Flopper. The next question you might be asking is: where do I catch the Vendetta Flopper? Well, in the water, of course!
Jokes aside, that is literally the case. Sadly, there is no golden place in Fortnite where you are more likely to catch this legendary underwater creature than elsewhere. Unfortunately, your chances will always be the same no matter where you are on the island.
Since this is the case, I always recommend just fishing at the places that are most comfortable for you. If there is a particular lake or river that you really prefer fishing at, head there and enjoy this classic pastime to your heart’s content.
My only recommendation is a place with a large enough body of water where there is plenty of fish floating around for you to catch. And that it is a quiet area on the map where not a lot of players are likely to visit it.
Once you have your go-to place on the map, the trick here is locating the Vendetta Flopper with the pro fishing rod. Unfortunately, you only have a mere 1% chance of finding one of the legendary fish. You could fish 100 times or even more than that and never see it once. These are harsh odds that will take some serious patience.
Is this Fish Ready to Fry Today?
I hate to continue to be the bearer of bad news, but the fact of the matter is that it is impossible for you to catch the Vendetta Flopper in Fortnite. Not because of the insanely low catch rate (though that is annoying), but because of external circumstances that are beyond your control.
Unfortunately, the Vendetta Flopper was one of the casualties of the immense meta changes. It was first introduced in Chapter 2, Season 4. Following up after the water-based Season 3 was the perfect time to bring in some new fish types. The Vendetta Flopper was one of the several that arrived that season.
Thankfully, it stuck around past the conclusion of Season 4 but not forever. It was removed from Fortnite at the onset of Chapter 2, Season 7. It only stuck around for a total of three seasons, and that was it. It didn’t even remain until the end of Chapter 2.
There is always the chance that Epic Games will unvault the Vendetta Flopper and bring it back at some point, so fingers crossed that this happens.
