Fortnite is known for its wide-open island maps that have been at the forefront of every season to date. With three islands in total (sort of), there are a lot of different locations that have popped up over the years. Our Fortnite locations guide is here to simplify the entire process for you.

After all, there have been more than a dozen locations on the Fortnite islands at once in almost every single season, with new ones and major changes happening with the onset of new seasons.

In fact, there have even been changes in the middle of a season. Thankfully, our Fortnite locations guide is here to give you the full history and breakdown of all major locations ever.

Bottom Line Up Front

Over the course of 19 seasons and counting, Fortnite has had more than 80 named locations to date. Across three chapters, these more than 80 locations have appeared, changed, and been a major part of the game. With each new season, Epic Games typically adds new locations and changes existing ones.

Different Types of Fortnite Locations

When it comes to locations in Fortnite, there are a few different types that players should know about. For one, there are the points of interest or named locations that have names that are clearly seen on the map. They are usually among the biggest places you can visit, hence the names.

Given that they have names and that they are shown on the map, much of the progression and challenges are built around these main areas. This is where players will go to do many tasks in the various weekly missions, find plenty of loot, and even some NPCs to talk to and trade with.

That said, there are other types of locations beyond just these on the Fortnite islands. The other main types are the landmarks, which do have names, but you cannot see them on the map itself.

These are places where the user can find some loot and sometimes challenges and NPCs but are on a much smaller scale than the main named locations.

However, landmark locations are still important to the Fortnite map as it fills it out with more detail and interesting parts, in addition to the main locations.

Some of the most notable landmarks include the most famous one of them all, Risky Reels, which was able to elevate itself to a named location status eventually after years of sticking around.

At the same time, there are even some named locations that can do the opposite: be demoted to landmark status after being a major location. We have seen this quite a lot in Chapter 2 with places like The Shark, The Yacht, The Grotto, and Stealthy Stronghold all being demoted.

Fortnite Chapter 1 Map Guide

Fortnite Chapter 1 is the season that started it all. As soon as the game launched, it had an entire map to explore with more than 10 named locations of its own. When the first season began, there was a firm foundation from which Epic would add and change over the course of the 10 seasons in this chapter.

Here’s what you need to know about every major named location to release across Chapter 1 and some details about each of them.

Season 1

It all began with the maps that we had in the very first season of them all: Chapter 1. This was the season in which Epic started what would become its reign as one of the biggest video games ever created. What is interesting is that the first season came a period of time after Fortnite’s actual launch.

As such, the first season mainly shook up the formula with the battle pass system and not really any new locations. That said, it continued with the default places that were featured there. Among these is the location known as Greasy Grove.

One of the favorites of this group, it featured a fast food-centric town in which players could check out a burger place or find loot.

Then there was Loot Lake, a massive lake near the middle of the map. Players were slow when trying to cross this area, making them vulnerable, as they attempted to reach the mansion in the middle where plenty of loot and treasure chests were found.

To the left of Loot Lake was Pleasant Park, a large suburban neighborhood that featured plenty of houses to loot. It would become a staple in the series, remaining across both Chapters 1 and 2. Then there is Anarchy Acres, a location where a smaller neighborhood in the outlying north was found.

There was also Fatal Fields, a farmland area that was not too special or interesting. Lonely Lodge was next, a place where you could find a towering outpost to explore in the middle of the forest. Flush Factory was found to the south and was a toilet factory and great landing spot for wary players.

Moisty Mire was also out of the way in the corner of the island and was a much-maligned swamp area that did not work too well due to its movement problems. Then there was Wailing Woods, the prominent forest in the north where players could hide well and sneak up on enemies.

Retail Row was another prominent location and a fan favorite, featuring a small town with a neighborhood and shopping district. While Season 1 did not introduce new areas, it did bump up some landmarks to named status. This includes Tomato Town where the pizza parlor was the prominent fixture here.

There was also Salty Springs, a small town that was not too notable in any way but would stick around in the game for a long time. And last but not least, there was Dusty Depot, a warehouse district with some metal buildings for players to explore.

Season 2

Season 2 added five new named locations to the map. First, we have one of the most popular destinations of all time in Tilted Towers. The iconic city got its start here, adding some interesting layers to the map. Shifty Shafts was up next, an underground mine that was difficult to navigate.

Junk Junction was a location that was found in the northwestern corner of the island, featuring a junkyard with plenty of metal to gather. Haunted Hills was found south of it, featuring the creepy graveyard and hills in this area.

Last but not least, Season 2 added Snobby Shores, which was one of my favorite locations in Chapter 1 and was a western shore neighborhood that had style to it. The houses were large and there were gates around, making the exploration rather interesting here.

Season 3

In Season 3, Lucky Landing was the sole new named location to launch in Fortnite battle royale. Perhaps the most underrated location in the history of the game, it was my favorite place during this season with its beautiful design that was so different from everything else.

Season 4

Dusty Divot was the sole new major location in this new location, representing a major change from Dusty Depot with the crater in the middle. The research center here helped to make it feel new and different.

Season 5

Season 5 kicked off with two new locations: Paradise Palms and Lazy Links. Paradise Palms took over the area that was formerly known as Moisty Mire while adding in the desert biome. It was generally well-received compared to the previous iteration.

Lazy Links, on the other hand, took over for Anarchy Acres and gave us a golf course complete with some vehicles to drive around in. Tomato Temple also arrived later in this season, bringing with it a more exotic take on the Tomato Town that was there previously.

Season 6

In Season 6, Leaky Lake arrived as a more destroyed version of the formerly large body of water. This was due to the events that occurred surrounding the Cube from this season.

Season 7

For Season 7, Epic Games really shook up the Fortnite formula by introducing a snowy biome that took over a vast majority of the southwestern side of the island. As part of this, three new areas were added to the island.

First of these was Frosty Flights, an airport where players could easily find the new Stormwing planes to drive around in. Next up was Happy Hamlet, a charming little town that felt very different in style from the places before this. And last but not least, there was Polar Peak as a mysterious and rather empty mountain peak with little to it.

This was also the season in which The Block, which was the replacement for the Risky Reels landmark. It featured a wonderful community aspect to it where player creations from Creative mode could be featured here for a limited time.

Season 8

At the start of Season 8, the new locations were Sunny Steps and Lazy Lagoon. Sunny Steps had a Mayan-like aesthetic to it with the large temples and jungle atmosphere. On the other hand, there was also the Lazy Lagoon area where pirates invaded and took over this idyllic bay complete with a large pirate ship, town, and titular lagoon.

Season 9

Season 9 took the pirate theme from Season 8 and completely flipped it on its head into a cyberpunk island. The island featured a lot of futuristic upgrades, including three new named locations that were from the future.

The first of these was Tilted Towers becoming Neo Tilted. This cyberpunk version of the city had neon lights and impressive sights for players to check out in what I believe is the best version of the city to date.

On the other side of the map, there was Pressure Plant, a strange factory that was built inside of the Volcano landmark’s ruins. Players could come here for loot and also find a way into the open volcano for intense action.

Lastly, there was Mega Mall that replaced Retail Row and was, in my opinion, the best version of this town as well. Mega Mall turned the shopping district idea of Retail Row into an entire mall that was massive and high tech with many different floors and shops to explore.

Season X

The first chapter of Fortnite concluded with the 10th season known as Season X where lots of nostalgia was prevalent. Pandora was one of the few new locations in this season, featuring the first major crossover destination with the Borderlands video game series and its classic desert environments.

Moisty Palms eventually made its debut, being a combination of both Moisty Mire and Paradise Palms. Tilted Town would also arrive, taking Tilted Towers into the past with a Western theme. Gotham City would also arrive in this season, bringing Batman’s hometown into Fortnite as a separate replacement for Neo Tilted.

Starry Suburbs would also arrive, making the castle area on the west side of the map into an interesting new location.

Fortnite Chapter 2 Locations Guide

With The End event that happened in Fortnite Season X, the island was destroyed and the game went offline for a while. It would come back with a brand new island to explore in Fortnite Chapter 2. With mostly new locations all around, there were plenty of new areas for players to explore.

Season 1

Season 1 of Chapter 2 saw the launch of the first new island in the history of Fortnite since the very beginning of the game. With this new island came plenty of new areas for players to explore. There were a few older areas thrown in the mix, like Pleasant Park and Salty Springs, but mostly new stuff all around.

One such new area was Sweaty Sands, a massive new city on the western side of the island that aimed to be the largest main town for players to explore. Set on the beach, it was very different from the Tilted Towers of the past.

Another new area was Steamy Stacks, a massive nuclear power plant where players could launch themselves into the air using the smoke from the stacks.

There was also Frenzy Farm that aimed to be a much better farm location and it was with its larger area and huge mansion in the middle. Dirty Docks was one of the most interesting new areas as a major industrial dock area on the eastern side of the map.

Near Dirty Docks was Craggy Cliffs, a northern town that was all about fishing and being on the side of the ocean. On the southern side of the map, Lazy Lake was the new water-based lazy area and it was much different, featuring an upscale town with nice houses and cafes.

On the other side of the lake, players could find Misty Meadows, a quaint little town that was picturesque and not too busy. Left of Misty Meadows was Slurpy Swamp, the place where the slurp juice from the shield potions came from.

Near the swamp was Weeping Woods, which was the new take on Wailing Woods that was vast and filled with campsites, a much better version overall. And last but not least, there was Holly Hedges, a quiet town that was not too popular initially and great for players looking for a relaxing place to loot.

Season 2

After a very long first season, Epic came in with new locations in Season 2 with a whopping five in total. First up was The Agency, the new middle area that was home to the spies and quite popular. Then there was The Shark, a shark-shaped island that was in the middle of the ocean.

There was also The Yacht found in the middle of the ocean that was a more challenging place to get to and from, but unique. Speaking of unique, there was nothing like The Grotto that was an underground named location with a secret base and helicopters.

Last but not least, there was The Rig found near Slurpy Swamp that was an oil rig in the middle of the ocean.

Season 3

With the onset of Season 3, water filled the world and caused new locations to appear and old ones to disappear. The Agency became The Authority with a larger and more powerful location while The Fortilla appeared in the ocean.

The Rig was flooded and destroyed, becoming Rickety Rig while Catty Corner became a completely new named location in the southeastern corner of the map. Coral Castle would debut later in the season as one of the most unique areas in Fortnite history.

Season 4

Season 4 was the first season ever in Fortnite to be entirely based around a crossover event. With the Marvel invasion in the world of Fortnite, several themed locations appeared. Pleasant Park became Doom’s Domain where the villainous character reigned while Frenzy Farm would later become Stark Industries.

Eventually, The Authority was destroyed and converted into The Ruins.

Season 5

Season 5 kicked off with the long-awaited return of Tilted Towers but in combination with Salty Springs to make the awesome Salty Towers. Colossal Coliseum appeared where Frenzy Farm once was to make a Roman-themed location.

Then Hunter’s Haven arrived as a brand new point of interest alongside the Stealthy Stronghold area. The Zero Point appeared in the middle of the map in an isolated desert biome.

Season 6

Season 6 launched the Primal season in which much of the biome of the island changed to this primitive destination. In the process, Colossal Coliseum was turned into Colossal Crops that was a mix of the Roman style and the Frenzy Farm from before it.

In place of Salty Towers, Boney Burbs appeared as a strange version of Tilted Towers with a primal and destroyed vibe to it. Zero Point in the middle became The Spire, a large tower with a town at the base of it.

Season 7

From there, we would go to Season 7, which was the Invasion season where the aliens finally crash-landed on the map. Corny Crops would become the new farmland area while Sweaty Sands would become the alien-worshipping town known as Believer Beach.

Season 8

The final season of Chapter 2 would be the Cubed season and brought with it basically no major new areas at all as Epic Games was secretly preparing for the launch of Chapter 3.

Fortnite Chapter 3 Locations Guide

Instead of going to 10 seasons with Chapter 2 as we expected, Epic Games surprised everyone by ending the chapter early with the eighth season and starting over fresh with the 19th. Thus began Chapter 3 as the island flipped completely over to reveal a new map underneath.

Season 1

At the start of Chapter 3, the new Season 1 map included 12 points of interest in total for players to explore across. Of these 12 areas, there were only a couple of returning locations and most of them were from the very first chapter of the game. That said, there were 10 new locations that debuted at this time.

The first of these was Coney Crossroads, a town in the north that is a quiet but important place as the midway point between several different areas of the island. East of it was the themed area of The Daily Bugle, which was the newspaper office that Peter Parker/Spider-Man worked at.

The Joneses was found near that and happened to be a town of the Jonesy characters that had become a crucial part of the meta storyline surrounding Fortnite. Sanctuary was in between The Daily Bugle and The Joneses as the home of The Seven and The Foundation NPC.

In the far south of the map, there was the desert biome where two main locations were found. Condo Canyon is a more isolated area without much to it, but an interesting area nonetheless. Chonker’s Speedway is near it in the desert, too, and features a massive racetrack with lots of cars for players to find.

Still near those two is Rocky Reels, which as the name states, features the long-awaited promotion of Risky Reels from a simple landmark to an actual named location for the very first time. There was a lot of snow in the southwestern corner of the map where players could find places like Camp Cuddle.

The campsite is the home to the Cuddle Team Leader and all of her friends, being able to see where they come from for the first time. Sleepy Sound is a peaceful town on the island that is similar to that of Misty Meadows and Craggy Cliffs in the past.

And last but not least, there was Logjam Lumberyard. If this name was familiar, it is because, like Rocky Reels, Logjam was once a landmark location that was featured in Chapter 2.

In this new chapter, though, the Lumberyard got an upgrade to become a major named location with more to it than ever before. That is it for the named locations that have been added to Fortnite thus far.

There are likely to be around eight or more seasons in Chapter 3, so we expect plenty more soon enough to get the total number of locations to 100 in no time.
